Standard operational procedure. Remember the $60 hammers of yore? Or were they $100 hammers? In any case, war is a racket, as Smedley Butler so succinctly wrote, especially for those who sell to the government. Tax dollars? Think free dollars, as far as those people are concerned, and you'll be right on target.

Let's see...IU-Bloomington estimates the total direct costs (tuition & fees, room & board in university housing, books & supplies) to be $21,412. Let's add in a generous $1,500 a month for other spending, and call it $40,000 a year. That means that the purchase price of that gas station would have paid for 1,000 student-years of education. Why does this make me angry?
