You know Howard may not be as well known as Larry McMurty, but I'm pretty sure Howard is one of the more famous Texas authors. This article was written by one of those people who are trying to be fair, but help be a bit condescending.

REH is very well known.

I've been to Cross Plains and toured his house, but not on Howard Days.

I would say he's well known by people who read; I'm just not sure how large a group that is anymore.

We attended the Howard Days for many years before my stroke in 2002, then only a couple times afterwards. However, we are planning on returning next year, but just for one day, either Friday or Saturday. We can't be away from home longer than a day. As it is, I took many pictures on my previous tours. I'll still take my camera for a few pictures next year. I'll be approaching my 78th birthday, so it will likely be the last time I'll be able to attend.
